The Bride

About the bride

Sandra was born and raised in Livingston, New Jersey, where her creativity showed up early and often. Whether it was art, design, or finding new ways to think outside the box, she has always been someone who sees the world through a creative lens. She went on to study Art with a concentration in Graphic Design, earning her Bachelor’s degree and later returning to complete her MFA after working in the design industry for two years.

For over twenty years, Sandra has built a career as a designer across a variety of industries, bringing ideas to life through visual storytelling. Her work has taken her to companies such as Paris Baguette, E*TRADE, and JP Morgan. Beyond traditional design, she also creates digital artwork, often focusing on expressive self-portraits that reflect different chapters of her personal journey.

Sandra loves bringing people together and is known among friends and family for planning memorable events and celebrations. Creating spaces where people can connect, laugh, and share meaningful moments is something she truly enjoys.

In addition to her creative career, Sandra is also a spiritual advisor and Reiki therapist. Through her practice, Alquimista, she focuses on clearing, balancing, and strengthening energy while supporting others on their healing journeys, particularly those working through childhood trauma.

At her core, Sandra is always exploring—whether through new creative projects, themed artwork, or helping others grow and reconnect with themselves. She believes life is a journey of transformation, creativity, and connection, and she continues to follow wherever that path leads.

The Groom

About the groom

Growing up in rural Canada, Chef Ian Kapitan was no stranger to butchering and farmwork.

After moving to Toronto to pursue photography and supplementing his income washing dishes to pay the bills his talent was quickly acknowledged by Greg Couillard and David Adjey at China Blue’s and an opportunity to learn to cook was presented. He accepted the offer and chose a life in the kitchen.

Looking for an understanding of French techniques led Ian to Langdon Hall Relais & Chateaux with Joel Robuchon trained Chef Nigel Didcock cooking regional French cuisine. While attending Culinary School in Ontario, he met Susur Lee and worked for Susur at Lotus cooking French influenced Chinese cuisine. Ever wanting to learn about different cuisines and techniques, Ian decided to change direction and work with Chef Massimo Capra cooking regional Tuscan cuisine.

Ian, who is also a musician, decided to take a break from the kitchen and moved to New York to pursue a career in music. But the kitchen called him back where he worked with famed New York chefs Jean-Georges Vongerichten at Jo Jo and Vong and later with David Bouley at Danube. The Ryland Inn reeled Ian across the Hudson to New Jersey under the direction of Craig Shelton. Venturing on his own he opened Marco & Pepe. Ian received favorable reviews and was voted one of the Top 26 Chefs in the State by New Jersey Monthly Magazine. Moving on to the Light Horse Tavern he continued to spread his culinary passions.

His fortuitous trail brought him to Alobar in Long Island City, where he was featured in Edible Queens, Boro Magazine, Details Magazine, and regional publications and food blogs as well as being inducted as one of the best chefs in America in the Best Chef’s of America guide. Ian was awarded a Michelin Bibb Gourmand award for Alobar in 2013 and 2014 as well as achieving a rating of 26 for food in Zagat. Ian relocated to Cincinnati to take over the Precinct rated as one of Americas highest rated steakhouses in the country.

Ian has returned to his Canadian roots with two new projects in Toronto. Old School BBQ and Recess Diner, a contemporary take on the classic American Diner and a return to a intimate and personal cooking style that he grew up with featuring local Ontario ingredients and big flavors poured into every morsel of his dedicated cuisine.
